Toddlers & Tiaras: Beautiful Dolls

44 contestants in this full glitz pageant where everyone is meant to feel like a winner. It has a $500 cash prize for the ultimate grand supreme winner.

5 year old Kailee was 4 months old when she began pageants. It wasn’t really her choice but she’s been pretty successful. She likes the fancy clothes.

Sterling is 5 and began at age 4. She brings home titles. Paris is 3 and began a year ago. She’s already won two grand supreme titles. Powerhouse of pageant girls here. The dad is fine if that’s what they want. They love the excitement, the stage, the people.

Skyler, age 4, loves being on stage. She started at 2.5 years old. Her mom did pageants. Skyler’s getting her eyebrows done by her mom because she hates unibrows. Her mom hopes she won’t pick up on her disappointment if she loses.

Kailee’s mom wishes pageants didn’t cost $6-9,000 a year. Just this tournament will cost $6-700. The entry fee alone is $130. The grandparents help out.

Sterling and Paris use “magic hair” aka a wig. The mom is a fan of anything that can enhance beauty.

Skyler tries on her dress. Skyler is super quiet. Her mom says she’s a girlie girl. I’m wondering if she’s spoken yet on screen. She’s very obedient. She has a cop outfit with handcuffs and a no donuts sign. Skyler practices every day before a pageant. Her mom takes pageants seriously, too much effort to look at it as a joke.

Sterling has gotten her first flipper because she lost a tooth and the smile has to be flawless. Her mom fears that it will fall out and is counting on her to keep it in. The family goes shoe shopping. Sterling puts on shoes higher than the ones her mother wears.

Kailee’s mom views pageant prep like any other competition. Nail polish is like protective equipment in sports. She gets her nails done.

Skyler’s dad isn’t a fan of pageants. He used to go to the pageants but was concerned by some of the mothers who seem to be overweight and unhealthy and doing it for themselves. He said he didn’t like pageants and Skyler got upset so he tried to show he’s ok with it.

Sterling and Paris practice. Her mom says Sterling must work on smiling and projection. Paris needs to get more familiar with where to go on stage. The mom says she’s competitive to an extent and wouldn’t make them do it if they didn’t want to.

Kailee’s mom does her makeup. She gets poked in the eye. Sterling can’t keep her eye clothes for the eyelashes. She and her sister have a professional makeup stylist. (Sterling looks creepily older than a five year old.) The family prays for the girls to bring home the crown. Skyler’s tan looks odd. Her mom drinks red bull. You can’t tell but Skyler’s excited. Paris’s nail fell off. For every minute you’re late you lose a point.

Beauty first…

Most of the baby miss contestants seem to be on the floor bawling or being yanked to their feet by their arms.

Kailee is told by another contestant that she’s the most beautiful.

Paris is up in the 2-3 division and she is anxious to go. She looks full of energy but her smile is kind of creepy. She doesn’t want to get off the stage when she’s done.

Now comes 4-5 group. Sterling comes on and moves very slowly. Her dad says she was wonderful. Skyler wants her mother to come up with her and has sudden, unusual stage fright. Her mom convinces her to go on but she’s a bit off and her mom begins to panic. Kailee comes on and her mom does the motions in the crowd and her mom says Kailee’s beauty is off. (She heads off the wrong way.)

Casual wear. Paris is up on casual wear. She didn’t do a split but was otherwise awesome. Sterling likes her firefighter outfit because it’s sassy. Does she even know what that means? She could have done more but overall she did well. Skyler is much more comfortable now. She does a split. And she accidentally throws away her gun. Kailee has a rock routine and she also looks better here. It’s her favorite routine. Her mom cried a little bit at how well she did.

Crowning time. Kailee says she doen’t want a smaller crown and will be mad if she gets one.

Paris raises her hand for an award she didn’t get. Paris does get queen of her division.

Sterling and Skyler is in the next division. Sterling gets most beautiful. Model goes to Sterling. Best dressed is received by Sterling. Prettiest hair is given to Sterling. Queen of the group is…someone we haven’t hear anything about. Neither of the girls we know got anything yet which means they’re eligible for a bigger prize at the end. Sterling doesn’t understand this and is upset. Paris really wants to get back on stage and throws a tantrum.

Kailee is in the next group. Her mom tells her she will be proud of her no matter what happens. She receives prettiest eyes. Kailee wins queen of her group.

Sterling is crying backstage because she doesn’t understand why she didn’t get anything.

Time for Supremes. Novice Supreme goes to Sterling. Now she’s happy. Mini Supreme goes to Skyler. She can’t even say what she is. The Ultimate Grand Supeme goes to a toddler whose name is Alycesandra.

America’s Got Talent Results 4

First off, the EriAm Sisters vs Drew Stevens. America has voted and the first of five acts going into the semi-finals is…Drew Stevens. A little disappointed there. I kind of preferred the girls but what can you do? Just kidding…both of them made it!!! Haha, way to change things up but ouch that was mean.

We’re informed that the contestants have worked hard to get where they are and practice a lot. Well that’s a good sign. It’s cute to watch the contestants cheer each other on backstage and react the acts getting buzzed. Anyone else notice that each episode has “the best talent yet?”

Stepping forward is Pam Martin’s Top Dogs, African High Flyers, and Coney Island Chris. I think of these three I’d pick African High Flyers but honestly I’d pick none. Oh, and sure enough, they are all out. (I wonder why in the last results of quarterfinals show they decided to change the format…)

3 spots left.

Ishaara, Recycled Percussion, and Matt & Anthony are put forward. I’d be shocked if Recycled Percussion doesn’t make it. Only one is going through to the next round. The next act to go home is…Matt & Anthony. No shock there. With two left who will go through? Recycled Percussion.

5 groups left, two spots remaining…

Performance by Reba McKintire. Oh, she’s still around?

The Lollipop Girls Vs. Mia Boostrom vs Eric & Ricky vs Barbara Pedilla. I like all but the Lollipop Girls…First act going home is The Lollipop Girls. Good. Now I think I prefer the singers because while the kids are cute I don’t think their technique is there yet. One of the acts moving on is…Barbara Pedilla. (Sharon says she’s perfect.) Who will the judges choose between Mia and Eric & Ricky. David votes Eric & Ricky. Sharon votes Mia. Piers is the tie-breaker and he chooses Eric & Ricky.

Check out the Top 20 List and watch their quarterfinals performances.

Hell’s Kitchen 7

There is talk of getting rid of Robert (for a more cohesive team) who is still in the hospital.

Challenge team. Ramsay is standing in front of a huge covered, tublike thing. He thinks they need to be more creative. The cover is revealed, it’s a craps table. They must roll a die and whatever letters they get they must choose an ingredient with that letter.

Women get R (rabbit), H (harricovert), P (potatoes), G (garlic), and H (hamhock). Well set dish from the start. Men get H (hadock), F (figs thanks to Dave’s difficulty thinking), A (angel hair pasta), A (apples), and T (tomatoes).

They have 30 minutes to make their dishes and the women seem to quickly split the work and get ready. Meanwhile the guys can’t seem to figure out what dish to make. Suzanne steps in everyone’s way as they cook, trying to do better. Kevin puts the figs in the sauce and they’re shocked to see it tastes good. Tennille suggests putting sugar in Ariel’s garlic puree but she ignores the suggestion.

Van thinks the girl’s dish is beautiful looking and Ramsay says the puree was very strong but the leg was well cooked. The men’s fish is delicious. Both are delicious and the men win the challenge. Andy says their the McGuyver of cooking. As a reward the men head to Vegas. As a punishment the women must bring in the deliveries.

Tennille pulls out a box of lemons and it splits at the bottom and spills all over the floor as them men walk buy in their suits. Being a genius, Van hangs his entire body out the window of their limo as they drive. There’s a huge sign welcoming the men to Vegas where they get a VIP suite among other things.

The women are having a tough time with the punishment and all go to bed as soon as they finish. At 1:15 am a delivery truck shows up. Tennille is cranky.

Time for prep in the morning and the women are sore and tired. The men arrived wearing their sunglasses indoors. Robert is still not back but the men don’t seem to care. In the women’s kitchen Suzanne is getting on everyone’s nerves. The men are bonded and feeling good. They think that without Robert they’ve been doing better (I haven’t seen that proof anywhere but ok). And then in walks Robert, an hour before dinner service. The men are pissed. Apparently Robert’s heart is too small for his body. The men are cold to Robert and he feels it.

Ramsay calls them together. Tonight for the first time ever they are going to have chef’s tables composed of executive chefs from his other restaurants and he warns them not to make him look stupid. The chefs table is right next to the kitchen so they can see what is happening inside.

Dave says they ordered two risottos but they never actually asked for anything. The women don’t go to greet them until Ramsay tells them. The men’s chefs are impressed that Dave is working one armed and say his risotto tastes good. Ariel delivers her meals but doesn’t get great feedback (not enough salt).

The men move quickly on to entrees. Van is confident on his fish station but when they deliver it’s not good because he left the plastic wrap on it. The women move on to entrees as well. They wonder what Suzanne is actually doing. Another blue table has the paper on it from the men’s table. Ramsay calls the men in to yell (well, I’m guessing Van will be on the hot seat tonight). The chef’s tables hear the screaming. The women seem to be moving well until Ramsay sees that the garnish is in a dirty pan and yells at Sabrina.

The men forget about the chef’s table. Apparently they don’t get a menu. Van just tries to recite what he can remember about the station (he even tells them one of the dishes isn’t very good). The chef’s tables have already been served and are enjoying.

The women are dragging on the rest but they seem to pick it up again. Robert is struggling on lamb meanwhile. He finally gets it delivered and the meat isn’t cut well enough. The red team teach their last two tables. Ariel is slightly behind on the pasta and Amanda’s kind of freaking out. (Ramsay still seems to blame Amanda.) Robert still seems to be struggling and then some of the meat is delivered raw. Ramsay decides to have them turn it all off.

Despite the best start yet they lost focus mid-service. The chefs in the red kitchen said they’d be happy to return. The chefs in the blue kitchen said thanks but no thanks. The ladies win service. He calls out Van and Robert. The chef that stood out was Dave who put them in front of the women for appetizers so he gets to pick the nominees.

Robert doesn’t think he should go home. He puts up Andy’s name as someone who’s been consistently bad. Robert and Andy have a screaming match.

Elimination time arrives and Dave nominates Robert for his weak service and health problems. Second is Van based on his performance that night. Ramsay adds Andy to the mix. He tells Van to get back in line. Why should Robert stay? Robert says he’s been consistent until now. Andy says he does everything needed of him and Robert does nothing. Second screaming match. Ramsay decides that it’s Robert’s time to go because despite having more services than anyone he still hasn’t picked it up.

Robert plans to work on his career and health and the experience has really helped him.

Andy says he knows he needs to step it up.

Ruby and the Rockits: Hot Spanish Teacher

David doesn’t understand parent teacher conferences. Why don’t they come to his work if they want to talk to him? Why don’t public schools have VIP lounges? He’s about to meet Ruby’s favorite teacher and she wants him on his best behavior. He’s making no promises. Until the teacher walks in and she’s hot (I know, the title was really subtle and you couldn’t figure that out yourself).

Ben welcomes people to the house to give a tour (Rockit fans) and get paid. Jordan agrees not to tell if he gets half the money.

Ruby is an exceptional student in spanish class. She’s a dork who says her teacher’s passion excites her in class. David tries to hit on the teacher who doesn’t know what band he’s from.

When the parents return they wonder why there are teacups (with lipstick) in the sink. Jordan covers by saying Ben wore the lipstick. In walks Ruby and David. David reveals that the spanish teacher, Ms. Vasquez, agreed to date him. (Jordan’s jealous. Ruby tells him she’s off limit. If he dumps her she’ll have to wonder if the teacher she loves hates her.

Ben searches in the garbage for things to give out on tours. Patrick asks if anyone else is missing their belts. Jordan tells him only nerds wear belts but cool straps aka suspenders are in.

Ruby feels bad about getting her dad to cancel his date wants to make it up to him. But it turns out he did go on the date. They talk and David finds out that Ms. Vasquez didn’t follow the Rockits (her sister did and would be so jealous right now).

On their date, Ruby lures her dad away and then warns her teacher about her dad. Ruby apologizes the next day., it was inappropriate to come on the date. Ms. Vasquez says she broke up with him, so as not to make Ruby uncomfortable, by saying they’re too different.

When Ruby goes to her dad after school he comes clean about the date and says he’s never had any woman reject him before. He feels like the luckiest man alive, he’s in love! (Just because she rejected him?) He writes Ms. Vasquez a poem. Ruby says this is crazy. He hasn’t listened to his messages (the kid who does that is out sick). He seems to know things about her. Ruby finds David’s phone and plays her teacher’s message.

Ruby talks to Patrick and Audra about the situation. Audra says he’s not really in love. Ruby tells them what he did and they’re not pleased. “You sabotaged their date!” They tell her what she did was wrong.

Ruby finds her dad asking if his chocolate cake loves him. He’s sitting on the floor in a depression. He knows what Ruby did and he tells her it’s ok, he doesn’t deserve love…She tells him if he wants a real relationship it will happen. He says no, it hurts to much. Ruby said that’s not a reason to give up (if you have a hangover you cure it by going out and getting drunk again!).

Ruby is giving a presentation in Spanish class when her dad comes in playing guitar. “Why isn’t this working?” he wonders.

Patrick and Audra have snuck away for a lunchtime bedroom break. Ben and Jordan are caught giving a tour of the house and their parents sit them down to yell at them.

10 Things Dance Little Sister

Bianca has eye contact with hottie Bo Brody, captain of the soccer team, for two seconds. Bianca is sure he wouldn’t want take her to the dance so Joe comes up to ask for him. Bianca goes to Kat to ask for something which Kat immediately says no to. (For those who haven’t seen the movie this is where it is revealed that Bianca cannot date until Kat does.) Bianca has been crushing on him for a week and they could be soul mates. Bianca is desperate so she goes to Patrick and asks him to take her. He says sure because he’d like to see her in a dress. Kat asks what makes him think she’d want to go and warns Bianca to sleep with one eye open.

Apparently Bo pretended he was too shy to ask Bianca out because chicks dig it. He’s the David Beckham of the school he was nothing to be shy about. Cameron then overhears Bo booking a room for Saturday night. Cameron then tries to talk Bianca out of it. Bianca confides that this will be her first date ever. he says it should be special with someone who cares about him. He suggests she cancel and go with him. She suggests he go with Benji.

Bianca’s dad examines Bianca’s dress. He rejects it because it’s 3 inches above the knee. Kat intends to wear pants and a tee and Bianca says she can’t. She gets a text from him saying cu@7 and smiles. Bianca helps Kat into a dress and jewelry and make up. Kat’s nervous (her dress looks like it’s going to fall off) and she is about to go but Bianca says she has to wait for her descent. Like that movie She’s All That (which is only a funny reference because it was the other movie really popular when 10 Things was in theaters). Kat makes her descent but her dad is showing Patrick birth pictures. She finally gets Patrick away.

Bianca is still prepping, twirling in front of the mirror and stuffing her dress and dancing with a mannequin. And unstuffing her dress. And finally she calls Cameron because she’s been stood up. Cameron comes and convinces her to go to the dance (he’s the conductor of the hot tamale train).

Kat and Patrick stand on the side watching and mocking. On comes a slow song. Patrick asks her to dance and she says no way. He assumes she can’t dance and when she disagrees he tells her to prove. Kat realizes she should let him lead.

Anyone Else Think Her Dress Is About To Fall Off?

Anyone Else Think Her Dress Is About To Fall Off?

Cameron and Bianca walk in but before they can dance she’s pulled away by a friend. (Bianca still thinks Cameron is gay fyi).

Cameron tries to show off his moves and he looks so awkward it’s just sad.

Haha Kat and Patrick play “what are they saying?” Kat thanks him for rescuing her mom’s records. Patrick adjusts her hair. He suggests they get out the dance. He does say she looks really good in a dress. She puts on some eyeliner which Bianca gave her “in case Patrick can get through her defenses.”

Another slow song comes on and Bianca and Cameron dance. She discovers that he’s tall. She thanks him for saving his night. This would be perfect minus she thinks he’s gay. Up comes Bo who apologizes and says he has some excuse for what happened. Bo says he couldn’t find his phone and the air was let out of his tires. But then the guy’s phone rings and it turns out it’s in Cameron’s jacket. He explains he did it because Bo’s untrustworthy. She’s so angry at him she goes with Bo.

Some guy is shocked to find Patrick at the school dance. The guy is smoking and in walks someone to bust him (and assumes Patrick is smoking too). Kat looks for Patrick and can’t find him. She sits at a table alone for while (sad) and then leaves.

Bianca sits with Bo outside and he asks where she wants to go and she says just drive. He suggests the hotel room and she says to take her home.

Kat lies in bed clearly upset and in walks Bianca to tell her about her bad first date. Kat doesn’t want to talk about it. Or talk at all. They cuddle together in cute sister fashion and talk about how there are more ways to be screwed by a guy than getting pregnant.

[Sidenote: One thing I realize, the entire explanation for Kat’s personality was her bad sex experience with Joey, which didn’t happen in the show. So now she’s just a hostile person?]

Episode 7 Episode 9
General Thoughts

House of Jazmin

Following in the vein of the many fashion shows in TV (Project Runway, The Fashion Show, Make Me A Supermodel, America’s Next Top Model, Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style, etc), MTV has begun the show House of Jazmin which follows 20 year old aspiring designer Jazmin as she works to build her line with the help of her friends, photographer brother Joey, and mother (micro-manager and worrier extraordinaire).

I can’t help but wonder if her friends always gave her that much help before she was on MTV. If yes then she has the best friends ever. If no, well, I can’t say I blame them. Think she pays them?

It would have been nice to see this show start a little bit earlier in her career, as by the end of the first episode she has already gotten into Fashion Week so it isn’t really much of a journey. But as they prepare for the show, things seem to be chaotic–no prepared look book, no idea of the intended price ranges, choosing models without having them try on any of the clothes, etc.

So far the show isn’t all that dynamic (Jazmin is kind of whiny and dull) but it’s always interesting to see the full fashion industry in process. Not sure what I think of her designers as of yet but I’m excited to see Fashion Week.
