About

I’m an aspiring writer in the middle of my first novel (actually finished writing and need to start submitting!) and thought I’d put my TV watching hours to use. I often work better while watching something at the same time. Multi-tasking is great.) I’m also looking for a job in the publishing industry so fingers crossed there. (Update: I just got a new internship! Downside is it means it will take me a bit longer to update things, but I will do my best to stay on top of it all.)

Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to know or want me to write about. Or if you think there’s a show I should be watching. I’m always on the lookout for something new and this is a good place to come to find out if you’re missing out on something good.

So far there are six sections to this blog-
General Reviews (gives an overall summary of the show and what I think of it)
Episode Recaps (for some shows, I go into detail about the episodes and occasionally make predictions or say things I want to see)
If You Like… (this section is for people who are trying to find a show to watch or catch up on, it gives a brief summary and thoughts on different shows that fall into the same genre or type as a big name show, ie- Friends, Buffy, Star Trek, Full House, Heroes)
Old Shows (this is just to talk about old TV shows I’ve been watching lately that have mostly been forgotten but that I’ve found online or on DVD that are worth going back to)
New Shows (this is a review of new shows as they premiere)
Movies (this is to discuss movies, not quite TV but still appropriate)

I’m always up for trying a new show, so if there’s anything that interests you, let me know.

On a separate note, I have two other blogs. For one I write about the books I’ve been reading. If you’re looking for something to read, this is the place to look: What To Read. The other is about all the writing and publishing industry knowledge I’ve accrued over the last few years. The link is What Did You Learn.

I just wanted to let you know Kerr Smith was not on Roswell he was on Dawson’s Creek. Jason Behr was Max on Roswell.

Keep up the good work I read this every week…you watch most of the shows that I watch. However, I have cut back on some shows so that is why I’m reading on your page.

I think I might watch most shows that most people watch. Which shows are your favorites? (and are there any you’d like me to write more about?)

      • K Says:

I watch a lot…10 Things, 24, The Big Bang Theory, Bones, Burn Notice, Castle (LOVE), Chuck, Fringe, Glee (LOVE), In Plain Sight, Lost, NCIS, NCIS LA, The Office, Psych, Royal Pains, Stargate Universe, The Vampire Diaries, Warehouse 13, and White Collar…
I shows that I dropped this year…How I Met Your Mother, Heroes, Make It or Break It (Read on your page), V, Paranormal State, Criminal Minds, Ghost Hunters, Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, Sanctuary, and Legend of the Seeker (Read on your page).
To be honest I really haven’t dropped Legend…I still dvr it and I do watch most of it…however, it is not holding my attention that well anymore. I live for the Richard and Kahlan moments. If anything I would love to read more about Legend.
I really wanted to watch Life Unexpected it looked really good…do you plan on writing about each episode? My husband and I watch the pilot for Human Target and he loved it….I’m not sure what I think about it. I do know that I miss Pushing Daisies after watching Chi McBride play Winston…I loved him as Emerson Cod.

      • ax20 Says:

I miss Pushing Daisies as well though I didn’t really see the show until it was off the air.

I’m not positive about writing about each episode of Life Unexpected. I’d like to but at the moment I’m visiting a friend in LA so all my TV writing will be 1-2 weeks off. Maybe I’ll do another general recap and then pick up from there.

  4. K Says:

Also I would like to ask you some questions about Legend of the Seeker….are the books better than the tv show? Is the relationship between Richard and Kahlan the same or better or worse? I love the TV show not sure I want to start reading the books now. Any thoughts?

    • ax20 Says:

Normally I have a definitive opinion about whether I prefer the book or the movie/show (and 95% of the time the book is better), but in this case, I actually find myself unsure. There are pluses and minuses to each and I’m not sure I can pick a favorite between the two. Richard and Kahlan’s relationship is a little more intense in the book (and the ending of the first book is drastically different from the first season), at some points I prefer the book for the deeper connection and at other times I prefer the show for its great graphics and lack of beating us over the head with a message. Sometimes the book was more clever while other times the show is. I do recommend you read them. The first few books (and maybe the last 3) were my favorite in the series but I enjoyed them all well enough to read the whole thing. Sorry that I can’t give you a more definitive answer. (For me, part of the fun of watching it and reading it is the comparison and thinking about why they made certain things different.)

Still watching Life Unexpected? I really like it…reminds me of the old WB shows….next week it’s on at 8 before GG, btw. 🙂

I have been. I’ve been meaning to write about it but there are just too many shows on Mondays so I never have time for them all. I’m really liking Life Unexpected too (though I’m glad they decided that capitalizing the X in Unexpected was lame even if that meant that all the capital letters spelled out LUX). I don’t think the girl who plays Lux is the best of actresses and the girl who plays Tasha is slightly weird looking, but overall the story lines are very different from your average TV show about teen girls which is nice. And Shiri Appleby continues to surprise me. I’m really liking her in this show. Kerr Smith is also surprisingly good.

      • sarah Says:

Good….you don’t HAVE to write about it, but I have really been enjoying it so I wanted to make sure you kept up! Agreed…so glad they changed the name, that was stupid.

The girl that plays Lux is cute and that is what it was all about, but it’s clear this is her first major role. I am glad thou they found an actress to play Lux that actually LOOKS like a 16 year(uh, 90210, Gossip Girl??). It’s a nice change from typical teen dramas. I didn’t watch that CW show that Shiri was in before this but I have seen on a lot of blogs/reviews that everyone is surprised she can act lol. I love the guy that plays Baze, overall I think they did a great job casting. It was also cool to see Erin Karpluk from Being Erica(it’s on soapnet and you should check it out-they are only in season 2 now) on here too.

      • ax20 Says:

I’ve seen a couple of episodes of Being Erica. Not bad but didn’t love it enough that I’ve continued watching.

      • sarah Says:

LOL-I think it’s def. targeted towards late 20 somethings and early 30s folks…when you’re older you have more you would LOVE to do over , thus the basis of the appeal for me 😉 It’s not like an OMG I have to see it the nite it airs type deal thou…

    been watching drop dead diva????

    • ax20 Says:

i have been. not thrilled with the deb birthday episode, but otherwise i’m liking it.

      • sarah Says:

Season finale this week for 2 hours! Are you caught up?

      • ax20 Says:

I have seen this week’s just have to write up about it. Did you notice how kaylie’s moment seem almost identical to payson’s? (though she probably won’t be injured so much as hospitalized)

  8. sarah Says:

Ok, I didn’t want to spoil DDD for you!!

Yes, I did notice that on the previews lol-they just changed apparatuses, those writers are so creative! In reality, she really isn’t at the point where she would need to be hospitalized since she isn’t emaciated yet-I’m sure Bela and Ellen think she’s just fine the way she is…

Did you watch Nationals this year?

    • ax20 Says:

I did watch nationals this year. Not as exciting overall. The only surprise for me was Jordyn Wieber’s issues, but at the same time she seems more injury ridden than most so it may just be that. Rebecca Bross absolutely killing the competition was as expected. I think even if Bridget Sloan was at peak, Bross might have still won. I mean, the rest of the field wasn’t even close.

      • sarah Says:

No, it was NOT exciting at all really and NBCs coverage sucks, as we know. Wieber didn’t surprise me at all, she was beat up most of the year already-they pushed her into Sr. level skills way too soon, IMO. I agree, Bross would have taken it even if Sloan was healthy-all her start values are higher now, I believe, and she slimmed down. I was glad to see Larson healthy again, she had the best floor IMO. We are so screwed on bars for worlds, it’s not even funny…

      • ax20 Says:

Well, Bross is a good shot on bars. Valeri Liukin clearly knows what he’s doing there. And maybe mini-Sacramone. (Also nice to see her back but we’ll see how long she lasts. I’m not sure she’s convinced me that she’s back for the rest of the quad.) But yeah, that’s about it. We’ll see, there’s still some time to raise the difficulty level a bit before then. Some of them might have been working on things but not ready to compete yet, so here’s to hoping.

  9. sarah Says:

Yes, Bross has potential to get a huge score down the line, but it won’t be this year…but there is certainly no Liukin or Memmel or even Worley in this mix of girls. If Larson and Whitcomb(her beam blows thou) can get their D scores up we might not be SO screwed after this year. Mini Sac needs to spend some time with Valeri lol….I also agree, loving Sac’s comeback but with only 5 girls making the Olympic team this quad she has to get a bomb ass floor routine, not have her body break as she gets her floor back, stick her vault landings, and never miss a beam routine if she has a prayer of making that team.

    • ax20 Says:

the only way i’ll be convinced on her comeback being real is if she’s still around next year. look at the olympians from last year, are any of them still here? (minus sloan who never left)

      • sarah Says:

100% agreed…Peszek may have been in the mix for worlds this year thou if she hadn’t had to have that shoulder operation…but I can see Asac getting hurt again and I can see her saying ‘F this’ if she doesn’t make the world team this year…

Speaking of worlds…cannot wait to see how they do the ‘selection process’ in MIOBI fantasy land…Also, you mentioned Ellen Beals screwing Payson over …I don’t remember her encouraging her to petition(I could be totally wrong, I don’t pay all that much attention sometimes) and if she did-do we know why she would have done that?

      • ax20 Says:

Well, Beals didn’t encourage her per se, but she knew that Payson wasn’t ready, knew that Sasha didn’t think she was ready and said something like “you know your body.” basically Beals should have said you’re not ready we won’t let you petition yet. the reason she did this was because it was another way to hurt sasha’s standing. remember, right after the announcement that payson’s petition was denied, beals said to someone “i told payson she wasn’t ready and should delay until she was ready but sasha insisted.” (I just don’t understand why Payson didn’t think it was a good idea to wait until she actually had her skills up rather than push forward when she obviously wasn’t prepared.)

My impression of worlds selection is a competition with your all around score deciding if you will attend. Which is really less interesting than seeing a training camp where the national committee can arbitrarily decide who ultimately makes it. And i will say, I will be exceedingly disappointed if Emily makes it (which she will) because it would be a much more interesting and surprising twist to see her falter now and then see her work up to a “legitimate” comeback next year. (that means at least two years of proper training before suddenly becoming a big deal.) i could see emily being an alternate and having to compete because someone gets injured. that would be better than her making it outright. (and i wouldn’t be surprised if beals does that to “concede” putting emily on the team but hoping to keep her out of competition.)

  10. Krista Says:

Thanks for writing about MIOBI. I know it can be a frustrating show in its very far-fetched plot points, but there is so much potential there. I truly hope they realize this , and I hope audiences stick with it long enough for it to happen. I am usually for unforgiving to shows such as this one that are unrealistic to the point of comedy, but for some reason I find this show very endearing, and I’m rooting for it’s success. I enjoy reading your commentary on it, so I hope you’ll stick it out with me 🙂

    • ax20 Says:

I definitely plan to stick around. I find it oddly endearing too. I just enjoy complaining/pointing out things that are unrealistic. I do that about anything that I recap. 🙂

      • sarah Says:

LOL-these last 2 comments made me laugh…not to worry, Krista….there are 2 loyal MIOBI viewers here for the long haul. Eventhou, IMO, the first 10 episodes were actually good…they have killed it since, but I have to see how it ends now.

Real worlds are upon us! I am trying to figure out when NBC is going to do their coverage…I think Universal Sports has been covering it-sadly, DirecTV doesn’t provide that channel grrrr…

  11. Krista Says:

Well that’s good to know 🙂 I agree that the first half of this season wasn’t what I was hoping, but I have a good feeling about this next installment. I think they are kind of figuring things out as they go along, and will come into their own very soon.

  12. Kenniston Says:

I definitely enjoying every little bit of it and I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff you blog post.

Hi! Loved your Make It Or Break It Stunt Double post! You would not happen to know if Monica Hewes, the actress who plays Ivanka Kirilenko, the Russian’s star gymnast, had a stunt double as well, would you?
