I love new shows. There’s something that is so much fun about having something new to try. I was particularly excited for this one because I really like Amy Acker, yet another Whedon alum (Dollhouse and Angel among other things).
Happy Town is about the small town of Haplin (which the residents call Happy Town) and the mysteries there. One of those mysteries is the Magic Man. There’s the sudden brutal mystery, a police sheriff who seems to be losing his mind, a new girl in town who is forbidden to visit the third floor (which she promptly does), a movie apparel store owner…
I’m intrigued enough to check out next week’s episode but I was disappointed by how NORMAL Amy Acker’s character was. She was almost a non-character. I would love to see her turn out to have more story and personality because she does such a good job with strange and otherworldly and awkward (think of Summer Glau, they both excel in similar roles though Summer’s tend to be even more physical).
It felt like there was something in the show but we’ll see how next week looks.
